How to share files from home server?

I have my own home server on which I run my website. I would like to share files with people using the same server on which I run my website. How do I do that? I do not want the files to appear on website. I will give people a link and that is the only way they will be able to download the file.

If you have a server on your computer with a website on it and you want people to visit it, then you should do the following steps:

EDIT: These directions are for Windows Users.

    1. First you need to make sure the server is running on your machine.
    2. Make sure that you can access your website by typing in localhost in the address bar. If you can access it, then anyone else in your network can access the website!
    3. Make sure the other computers are connected to the network.
    4. To view your website, they must type in the IP address of the computer in the address bar.

To find your ip address in windows: Open the command prompt. You can do this by going to “Run” and typing in “cmd”. “Run” should be in your start menu. If you can’t find it, you can use the shortcut (Windows Key + R).

Once the command prompt is up, simply type in “ipconfig”. It should show you your ip address. Just have the other users type that in their address bar: example (http://132.124.2.3/ – NOT A REAL LINK, DONT CLICK)

Then they should see your website. Now all you need to do is make sure your website restricts downloads and etc.
