This product does the job as advertised, I had a collection of other region DVD which was not working on regular Sony DVD players, this one plays everything, and the picture quality is also very good.

I’ve owned the JVC XBP11 for a few weeks now. The Blu-Ray playback is good and my European DVDs play on it with no issues. An interesting thing I discovered with this unit is with one particular NTSC Region 1 DVD I own called Serenity. . .It will NOT play on it. The error states that this DVD is designed to play on Region 1 players and doesn’t support modified players. What’s odd is that I’ve owned this DVD for a number of years and it worked fine on my older, modified JVC, Samsung, and Toshiba region free DVD players. But this new player seems to be reading into some new information on the DVD that my others did not. At this point, I have no idea how many other DVDs I may have in my collection that aren’t compatible with this unit and I’m not feeling great about the situation. Otherwise, I’m very happy with the quality of the playback. For the price, I’ll keep the unit regardless.

I bought this player so I could watch films from other regions of the world and check out blu ray discs from my public library. so far I am very pleased. I read lots of reviews prior to deciding on this one. It’s great unless you want a player that connects to the internet and allows for streaming video. If you need that, then this is not for you and you should expect to pay quite a bit more.

Quite simply does exactly what the technical specifications promise. Ideal for anyone who has an international DVD collection. Upscaling of DVDs looks good to me. Startup time of the player is acceptable – you won’t be waiting for the firmware to load. Lack of BluRay 2.1 might be a downside for some enthusiasts, but personally I do not care much about “interactive” or online features of BluRays…
