Given that the big selling point for this player (at least initially) is its 3-D capability, it should be downrated severely for only offering a single HDMI output.

A 3-D player should have two HDMI outputs; if you’re using two projectors with polarized lenses, you need a left output and a right output. This player can’t deliver that. Bad design.

    Pros:

    * Looks awesome; I love the light effects on top; very sleek.

    * Loads movies (at least Planet Earth) VERY quickly.

    * When I turn it on, my (year+ old) Samsung TV also turns on automatically, and both remotes (from my TV and from the Blu-ray player) work with both devices flawlessly right out of the box.

    * Awesome picture (can’t comment on sound or 3D, however).

    Cons:

    * Completely froze at one point while watching Planet Earth–had to turn it off and back on.

    * If you leave it paused long enough for the screen saver to come on, the audio will not be in sync when you hit play. This seems to be 100% repro for me.

    * It sometimes switches back to “wireless” for its network setting after reboots, even though I keep explicitly setting it to wired.

    Overall:

I’m glad I got it; will get the 3D TV in a year or so and don’t want to buy another player when I do (this is my first blu-ray player). The audio going out of sync after pausing is frustrating but I hope they’ll fix it with a patch soon.

    Hello there,

I currently have a Samsung HLT5689SX/XAA DLP 3D ready TV with the TriDef 3D system for it. It is really cool and converts regular DVD’s into 3D for viewing using the Tri-Def 3D system with the shutter glasses. But you do have to play the DVD’s on a PC or Laptop connected to your HDTV using the TriDef software to do so. Currently the TriDef software does not convert regular Blu-ray DVD’s to field sequential 3D mode as it does regular DVD’s. I do also want to state tech-support from [TriDef] and [DDD] has been great for me.

I do not have a Blu-ray player, except for the one in my laptop and have been waiting for something like this Samsung BD-C6900 1080p 3D Blu-ray Disc Player to come out. In checking with Samsung, they stated this player is compatible with my DLP 3D TV and TriDef 3D system, but there is some other things people need to know about these systems and the Samsung BD-C6900 1080p 3D Blu-ray Disc Player.

Note; Michael Good’s review is really good, read it as well, as he stated, this player will not work on just any TV. 1st you need a 3D TV and 3D system that includes either wired shutter glasses or a transmitter with wireless shutter glasses that is compatible with this Samsung BD-C6900 1080p 3D Blu-ray Disc Player.

Then, unlike my TriDef software and system, as stated from Samsung support, it “WILL NOT” convert any Blu-ray DVD to 3D to play on your 3D HDTV. It will only do so for the field sequential or HQFS 3D Blu-ray movies, which it does not look like any are available at this time. Samsung support stated that they are currently working on this issue, but why upgrade to this player until they can convert any Blu-ray movie to 3D like my TriDef software and system are able to do.

I have also contact Amazon.com customer service asking them to do a better job in stating which 3D format each 3D movie is that they have listed. I hope all of you that have any of this 3D equipment contact them and request the same thing. Most 3D movies are the ANALGLYPH 3D format that has the pairs of colored glasses that come with them. From what I have learned only HQFS or sensio 3D format movies will work for the 3D mode of these systems and that is what you need to look for when buying 3D movies for these systems. Which “NONE” of the most popular 3D movies are out in these 3D formats at this time? The only one I have found is SPYKIDS 3 DVD in the HQFS format and no Blu-rays, except for maybe the Monsters vs Aliens Blu-ray that comes with the Samsung 3D Starter Kit SSG-P2100T.

Note: The ANALGLYPH 3D movies will work on this player, but not in the HQFS 3D mode that it is intended. Play them in regular mode and use the colored glasses. The HQFS (high quality field sequential) 3D format/mode is much better then the ANALGLYPH 3D format/mode or having a system as I do that turns regular DVD’s into the field sequential 3D movies. But this player will not at this time according to Samsung, in an online chat session I had with them today. So again, I don’t really see how it would be worth upgrading to this player or a 3D HDTV until this issue is resolved.

Please don’t take my word on it; there is plenty of information on the web tech forums. It will do you some good to understand the different 3D formats before purchasing this player and a 3D HDTV as I have.

I hope they get this all worked out soon so all of us with this equipment can see AVATAR in real 3D at home!!!

I’ll update this review once I actually get to the place I need to with this device. Aesthetically it’s brilliant. Movies look amazing, the interface is simple and well done, but I’m having some problems and want to see if anyone out there can help me since I just finished tech support call number 5 in the last 15 hours.

I just set up my C6900 yesterday. The internet is connected with excellent signal strength, I’ve been able to access youtube, acuweather and the like but today I planned on setting up a netflix account. Upon opening netflix (or blockbuster) I was told that I needed to update before I got into it. Fair enough. When I attempted to upgrade through the menu I received the message “Model information in upgrade file does not match with your player. Please check and retry.” 1/5 times that I try to do this I get the message that I CAN download the update, but once the device restarts itself nothing has changed.

I was told by the tech support I should try to download the firmware onto either a flashdrive or burn it to a CD (both of which had enough space and were empty apart from the .RUF files for the player). I re-downloaded it five times onto the flashdrive as well as using two different blank CD’s. For the flashdrive I received the message that the update has an error on it and for the CD the device said that it couldn’t load the CD period. The tech support told me that they would send me the update on a disk in 2-3 weeks but I was wondering if anyone had this problem and/or knew how to fix it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I do not own this player, but I must correct the other review. Yes there are going to be 3D players that will have 2 HDMI outputs, but not one for right and one for left. That was one idea like a year ago, and I believe Panasonic demoed a version like that at one point, but that was before the 3D specs were finalized.

Some 3D BD players will have 2 HDMI outputs. This is so you don’t have to buy a new receiver with HDMI 1.4. One HDMI goes to the 3D HDTV for picture and one HDMI goes to your old HDMI receiver for audio.

Just wanted to set the record straight. How someone could honestly believe the first 3D BD player doesn’t actually deliver 3D is beyond me. That would be one heck of a “DOH!”. This player is demoing in Best Buys across the country so don’t take my word for it, go see for yourself.
