I don’t know if this is possible,
Because i know very little about computers,
So if you need anymore information just ask><
Here is my situation.
With the same wireless modem that i’m using now,
My laptop was connected to the modem via an Ethernet cable,
And my desktop was connected via a Netgear Wireless USB Adapter (WG111v3)
Now this worked perfectly fine,
until one day – the laptop decided to stop working.
I found it recently, and after messing around a little bit with it,
Got it to work.
The only problem is.
A few months after the laptop stopped working for some mysterious reason,
the internet connection stopped working on the desktop.
This was because the Adapter had broken.
So I used the Ethernet cable to connect the desktop to the modem.
(The modem is a SpeedStream6520 – And it’s brand is “Siemens” If that helps at all!)
So now, I can’t connect the laptop to the internet, because the Ethernet cable that i once used, is being used by the Desktop.
I have tried connecting the laptop with the USB adapter, to no avail.
And yes, I did buy a new USB Adapter.
I have tried this website,
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/setup/adhoc.mspx
And as easy as it looks,
I dont have any of the options displayed,
Such as “Network and Internet Connections”, “Network Connections”, or the “Wireless Networks” tab in the “Properties” window.
I dont have a router,
So my question is.
Is it possible to share my internet connection, and files, between both my laptop and my Desktop?
If so, how?
P.S.
My laptop and desktop are the same brand, HP.
And both are running on Windows XP,
But the deskop is on Windows XP Professional.
The laptop has the options from the website, but for certain reasons it can’t be my host computer.
* my old computer is actually windows VISTA! \:
