What kind of laptop will i recieve with my accidental protection plan from Best Buy?

May 10th, 2011 5 comments

The plan covers any accidental damage, including water. I bought the laptop last year on black Friday. It is the HP dv6000 series. If my Laptop breaks to a point that it cannot be fixed, the plan says that it will REPLACE the laptop. If, by next year, the lap top becomes unfixable, will i receive a newer laptop? or the same one?

What is the best type of laptop for school, internet and speed?

May 9th, 2011 6 comments

I want a laptop that I can use for school, I do a lot of research on the internet so the internet has to be fast as well as the computer in general. I also do alot of work with photography and editing images. I have no idea what to look for in a laptop but I need one that is fairly cost effective, the lower the price the better.

How do I share an internet connection with my laptop and desktop without a router?

May 9th, 2011 2 comments

I don’t know if this is possible,
Because i know very little about computers,
So if you need anymore information just ask><

Here is my situation.
With the same wireless modem that i’m using now,
My laptop was connected to the modem via an Ethernet cable,
And my desktop was connected via a Netgear Wireless USB Adapter (WG111v3)

Now this worked perfectly fine,
until one day – the laptop decided to stop working.

I found it recently, and after messing around a little bit with it,
Got it to work.

The only problem is.
A few months after the laptop stopped working for some mysterious reason,
the internet connection stopped working on the desktop.
This was because the Adapter had broken.
So I used the Ethernet cable to connect the desktop to the modem.

(The modem is a SpeedStream6520 – And it’s brand is “Siemens” If that helps at all!)

So now, I can’t connect the laptop to the internet, because the Ethernet cable that i once used, is being used by the Desktop.

I have tried connecting the laptop with the USB adapter, to no avail.
And yes, I did buy a new USB Adapter.

I have tried this website,

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/setup/adhoc.mspx

And as easy as it looks,
I dont have any of the options displayed,

Such as “Network and Internet Connections”, “Network Connections”, or the “Wireless Networks” tab in the “Properties” window.

I dont have a router,
So my question is.
Is it possible to share my internet connection, and files, between both my laptop and my Desktop?
If so, how?

P.S.
My laptop and desktop are the same brand, HP.
And both are running on Windows XP,
But the deskop is on Windows XP Professional.
The laptop has the options from the website, but for certain reasons it can’t be my host computer.
* my old computer is actually windows VISTA! \:

Any help would be amazing, I want to try building one, and if successful help others do the same thing.

Are mini laptops relatively the same speed as a regular laptop?

May 8th, 2011 3 comments

I am planning on saving for a mini laptop but I play a game called ROBLOX that requires speed and before I buy this I would like to know if they are about the same speed as your everyday laptop. So if you use one or know someone who does please answer. Thanks.
