Should I look into getting a server for my home?

September 24th, 2011 1 comment

I do a lot of terminal service (RDP) stuff and share files over the network. Should I look into getting a used server? I have about 5 client computers and 4 laptops that all need to work at the same time. What are some good brands to look at?

Thanks.

How many tables should one server be assigned?

September 11th, 2011 1 comment

I’m at my first job as a server at a restaurant. The restaurant just opened and when I work, I work all the tables in the restaurant (8 tables). There is no bus staff, so I clean my own tables too. Lunch and dinner rushes are insane. From noon to 3 or 6 to 8, the tables are full. I know I’m new but I really couldn’t move any faster, and people are getting upset with the slow service. Is this a normal workload for one person?

What is a DHCP server and should I enable it or disable it on my router?

August 17th, 2011 2 comments

I just bought a Linksys router, and by default a DHCP server is enabled. Should I enable it or disable it? There are IP settings if it’s enabled and if it’s disabled I can’t changed the settings at all. Should I disable it, since I just want my router to handle IP stuff or should I just leave it at the default enabled? Thanks.

Is this a good enough amount of work experience to get a job as a server or bartender? What should I do?

July 16th, 2011 1 comment

1 job for only two weeks as a server, very minor work behind their small bar, Real estate liscence, 10 months of practicing making drinks at bartending school, about 15 college courses, about 4 years of working at retail stores, telemarketing, and restaurants. 6 years as a live in house keeper and counselor at a group home, 2 years as a housekeeper with my own small company that I started. Bartender for a wedding and two private parties for St. Patricks day and a birthday?

Which items would be better off left off the application, and which ones would help? Or would any of them help at all ? Would any combination of these be enough to get a job as a server or bartender anywhere? Am I fooling myself in thinking I could be a bartender / server with this? What kind of job should I do?

What software should I use on a home server?

June 27th, 2011 2 comments

I am building a home server that I want to attempt to use as a router and for extra accessable storage from my desktops. I don’t know what version of linux or unix would be the best. I am kind of new to linux, but I have played around with it for awhile now.

How many admin should a gmod server have?

June 9th, 2011 1 comment

I have recently started a gmod server and have one extra admin. I’m looking for more, but about 7 other of my friends want it, and they are all regulars on the server. I would enjoy extra help, but how much is enough? (keep in mind that this is a 10 slot server)
